Can we please save the “why do we only get the shortest month of the year” bellyaching? We get it. February is one month. It’s a short month.  We can and should celebrate 12 months a year but how many of us actually do? It’s a month set aside that is directed and targeted. It reminds me of the greatness of African-Americans in this country and it gives me an opportunity to learn some new facts. I treasure February because it’s a reminder not a replacement. If you read and study all 12 months, that’s beautiful. You’re awesome. Someone else may not be so fortunate and they need this time to remember.

Using February to shine a light doesn’t mean Black folks don’t matter the rest of the year any more than celebrating your birthday means no one appreciates your life the rest of the year. It’s just a spotlight. Let that shit shine.
